Astrid Clyde
(Owner and Head Groomer)

I was born in Germany and grew up close to Dusseldorf. My parents bred and showed Boxers, Bouviers, and Norwich Terriers. My grooming journey began in 1988 working for an Airedale Terrier breeder in England. Afterwards I worked with several professional handlers in the United States, specializing in terriers. I moved to Maryland in 1994, where I managed and groomed at a couple of boarding kennels in the area. In 2005, I opened It's A Pet Thing with my best friend, Courtney. I used to breed and show Welsh Terriers and Boxers and, currently, Norwich Terriers. I enjoy hiking and reading. Obviously, I love dogs, always have, and look forward to grooming every day, most days.

Courtney Keirsey
(Owner and Manager)

Born and raised here in Severna Park, Maryland. I have always loved dogs since my childhood dogs, Streaker and Mickey. I started with dogs professionally in 1996 working at a boarding kennel, where I met Astrid. I worked at several kennels and trained in all aspects of pet care. In 2005, I opened It's A Pet Thing with my best friend, Astrid. I am a true animal lover and have owned and bred several exotic birds and small pets, including Sugar Gliders, as well as dogs. My other hobbies include working in the yard and spending time with my family.

Amber Leyland
(Groomer)

Born and raised in Maryland, Amber's passion for dogs started out while working at a kennel in 2006. After working in the kennel setting for a couple of years she became a dog bather in 2008 and quickly advanced into apprenticing to be a groomer in 2009 and in 2010 she became a full time dog groomer. She worked at a few different grooming shops around Maryland. She is certified in Pet First Aide and CPR. She has been a proud member of the It's A Pet Thing team since February of 2018.

Foster Schaarschmidt
(Groomer)

Foster’s journey with animals began in Texas, though Maryland has always been home. He’s been working in the animal industry since 2022, starting with exotic pets and fish, moving to dog walking in 2023, and officially beginning his grooming journey in 2025. When he isn’t here providing premium baths, de-sheds, breed cuts, tooth brushing, or hot oil treatments, you can find him at home with his cat and tarantula, or keeping his hands busy with arts, crafts, and video games.
